T2 _ The habitation of old - Elisabetin and its parks.

The route through Elisabetin quarter will take us by Bălcescu Square, Carmen Sylva Park, Gheorghe Doja Park, Sfânta Maria Square and Alexandru Mocioni Square, thus making a passage through the history of the newest historic district of Timișoara.

Archival documents show that there were no buildings by the end of 1734 on the current territory of this district. Therefore we learn more about the rural aspect of this area of Timișoara and about how this district developed since 1892, after the gave up to its military fortress character, since it had no need for it anymore.

As we walk through one of the areas of this district, we talk about its evolution, about the important personalities and we will discuss some of the representative buildings of the area. Among the topics covered will be: housing, land lots employment, street front aspect and the importance of green spaces.

We will also discuss the meaning of terms such as: architecture with heritage value, architectural styles, garden city, bedroom neighborhoods etc. We'll talk about public/ private space ratio and the importance of treating public space as a space that brings communities closer together.
